HOW TO REACH YUNNAN
- Flight - Yunnan has 15 airports, some of which are conveniently located for access from China's major cities, such as Kunming, Lijiang, Dali, Shangri-La, and Jinghong. The busiest airport in Yunnan Province and the sixth busiest in all of China is Kunming Changshui International Airport, which serves several local and international flights. More than 40 Chinese cities are served by Lijiang Sanyi International Airport. The Dali Airport connects to roughly 18 Chinese cities and offers direct flights to a number of significant cities, including Lhasa.
- Rail - You can usually get to Yunnan by train via Kunming, although it's not as convenient as flying. Bullet trains are available from Beijing, Shanghai, Jinan, Nanjing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou to Kunming, but the journey is slow (6-12 hours for the fastest train). It takes more than 20 hours to Yunnan by interprovincial night train. Yunnan is also expanding its rail network to neighboring Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Myanmar.
- Road - Yunnan Province, centered on Kunming City, has a highway network that connects major cities in Yunnan Province, neighboring Sichuan Province, Guizhou Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region, and neighboring countries Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam.
HOW TO GET AROUND
- Taxi - The easiest way to get around Yunnan's cities is by taking one of the many taxis. Drivers are happy to give tips to visitors. The first 3 kilometers is 8 yuan, the second is 1.8 yuan. Visitors do not have to worry about not being able to return to the hotel. Because each hotel provides its guests with business cards in Chinese and English that show the taxi driver where to stay and how to get back there.
- Bus - There are over 50 bus routes that will take you to every corner of Kunming. Taking the bus is one of the best and most convenient ways to get around the city. Change is not given, so it is important to ensure that visitors have correct change. Public buses stop at all major city attractions and downtown business areas.
- Bicycle - Bicycles are still the main mode of transportation in Kunming and much of Yunnan. It's also a great way for visitors to explore the city. Visitors can stop as long as they like. You can rent bikes at many places such as Kun Lake Hotel and Camellia Hotel. The rent is 2 yuan an hour or 15 yuan a day plus a deposit. The security deposit is 400 yuan for new cars and 200 yuan for used cars.
