One of Austria's oldest cultural landscapes, the Wachau Valley or Danube Valley is located in Lower Austria, tucked between the towns of Melk and Krems. HOW TO REACH WACHAU
- Flight - Dresden (DRS) Airport, located 10.6 kilometers from Wachau, is the closest airport. Prague (PRG) (120.1 km), Leipzig (LEJ) (120.6 km), and Berlin Brandenburg (BER) (136.7 km) are three further airports that are close by.
- Rail - The Wachau Train's routes through vineyards and small towns at the foot of steep slopes between Krems and Emmersdorf.
- Road - From Vienna, one can easily go to Wachau. Renting a car will allow you to travel all the way to Melk. Reaching Melk takes just a little over an hour.
HOW TO GET AROUND
- Hiking - If you enjoy hiking, walking the 180 km Wachau World Heritage Trail is definitely the best way to explore Wachau. The thirteen communities of the Wachau Danube Region are elegantly connected by the route.
- Rental - Cycling comes in second place. Take the Danube Bicycle Path along the Danube River by renting a bicycle from nextbike. Rentable options include Segways and E-mobiles.
