HOW TO REACH SAPA
- Flight - With no dedicated local airport, visitors must fly to Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi and then take a bus or train to Sapa. This is the most efficient way for international visitors to reach their destination. Indian passengers can apply for a visa on arrival. Both Bangkok Airways and Air India fly to Hanoi.
- Road - The bus ride is long, but scenic and economical. Since it does not have its own airport, it is best to take a sleeper bus from nearby Hanoi or Lao Lai. The journey takes about 10-11 hours and can get bumpy along the way.
- Rail - The best and most efficient way to reach Sapa is by train. The nearest station to Sapa is Lao Cai station. To get to Sapa from the train station, you have to take a shuttle bus. Train journeys can take up to 8 hours. Again, most travelers recommend taking the sleeper train.
HOW TO GET AROUND
- Train - A safer and more comfortable option. Journey time is approximately 8 hours. Leave from Hanoi every evening to Lao Cai Train Station and arrive the next morning. From there it takes 1 hour by bus to Sapa.
- Bus - Cheap and fast, but not comfortable. It takes about 6 hours and runs from Hanoi to Sapa. No need to transfer at Lao Cai.
- Private Car - Duration approximately 6 hours, flexible. Cab fare depends on the duration of the journey and the kilometers.
